There’s not many treats more fall like than a recipe that includes pumpkin. I always tell my friends, “If the best thing about fall isn’t cooking with pumpkins than I don’t know what is.” The great thing amount cooking with pumpkin is that there’s no end to what you can make with this sweet and savory squash.

I slowly started getting back to my workout routine because I have a fall wedding I’ll be attending in November. The plan is to drop a couple pounds by then and one recipe that I’ve incorporated into my diet is this pumpkin protein smoothie. It’s velvety smooth and taste like I dropped a big slice of pumpkin pie into a blender. I can now satisfy my pumpkin cravings as much as want in this healthy delicious smoothie. It’s also great for vegan and paleo dieters!

Pumpkin Protein Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup of pumpkin puree
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons of honey, maple syrup or sweetener of choice
  • 1 scoop of protein powder ( I highly recommend Aloha)
  • 5-6 ice cubes
  • hemp seeds (for garnish)
  • pumpkin seeds (for garnish)
  • cinnamon sticks (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1. Use a powerful blender. I recommend NutriNinja (I use it) or Vitamix.

Step 2. Combine all the ingredients into a blender and blend on high for at least 2 minutes or until it’s well combined and smooth (Note: If you don’t have a strong blender, it may take longer).

Step 3. Taste and adjust sweetener, if desired. Add more almond milk if texture is too thick. Add more ice if too thin.

Step 4. If you like, you can garnish with pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, and cinnamon sticks.
