This fall, fashion designer Oscar de la Renta is launching a fragrance collection inspired by Oscar’s “mastery of fashion, and his enriched, joy-filled life.”
According to Oscar, we are moving away from the age-old tradition of marrying ourselves to one perfume and I must say that I completely agree. While some women still desire a signature fragrance, it has become a rarity as more women prefer to have lots of choices.
“We don’t change the way we look on a daily basis, but we may want to change the way we smell, [...] “A woman now wants to represent herself in many different ways, at different times. There is a world that is wide open to women, with a lot of choices. I no longer think a woman is married to one fragrance.”
The six-piece Essential Luxuries collection is based off tales from his life as each scent comes with a detailed story from Oscar’s past.
Santo Domingo: A smooth, smokey tabac fragrance based off of Oscar’s birthplace, the Dominican Republic. It has citrusy top notes with, sweet and spicy mandarin, coriander, tobacco, and patchouli.
Granada: A citrus floral scent inspired by his love of Spain. It features top notes of bigarade, bergamot, jasmine, orange and rose.
Oriental Lace: Inspired by Oscar’s deep love of fashion, this dark oriental scent is an allusion to Oscar’s deep love of fashion. It features notes of hoya carnosa, “a chocolate-scented vine which de la Renta grows in his Punta Cana home”, as well as honey, bitter almond, dark cacao, clove and patchouli notes.
Mi Corazon: A white floral bouquet scent that pays hommage to his family particularly his daughter and their common love for ylang-ylang.
Sargasso: A crisp marine scent reminiscent of the deep blue sea surrounding the designer’s Punta Cana beach home. It has notes of juniper, lemon and cucumber.
Coralina: A classic ladylike scent of floral bouquet with notes of violet, mimosa and orris, woods and greens. It’s named after a Dominican pink stone used to decorate the designer’s home and properties.
Each scent bottle is $150 for 3.4 oz/100 ml and will be sold exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue stores, Saks online, and OscardelaRenta.com. The entire collection will make its debut at Saks on Fashion Night Out.
