We all know how important it is to drink water daily but it can be challenge, especially for college students. I know because I’ve been there. At the beginning of my freshman year, I used to substitute water with carbonated drinks, sugary juices, and even worse alcohol because they’re more appealing than plain and boring water. To stay at peak physical condition on campus, ward off fatigue, have clearer skin, and combat food cravings (no freshman 15), I knew I had to drink more water. It’s an essential part of our diet and every single system in our body depends on it to function properly. I’m going to share with you 4 tips I learned from my mom that helped me stay hydrated on campus!

Carry a Water Bottle

This should be a no-brainer. Whether you’re walking around campus, working out at your school’s recreation center, or running errands, you should keep your body hydrated at all times. My mom motivated me to drink more water by purchasing a stylish water bottle. I graduated a few years ago and I still have it til’ this day.

Flavor up Your Water

I love to flavor up a glass of water by adding a slice of lime or lemon. You should try making your own flavored water too! Adding mint leaves, fruits, and cucumbers all make great additions and can provide added health benefits. Here’s cool idea I learned from mom- freezing cut up fruit pieces in a ice tray and adding the cubes to a glass of water. Cool yet refreshing don’t ya think?

Make it Part of Your Morning Routine

When you wake up, water should be your first priority before heading to class. You should keep a glass of water on your night stand or by your alarm clock to remind you to drink water. When I was in my teens and still living at home, I remember waking up and seeing a glass of water my mom left me on my nightstand. Having that first glass of water will rehydrate your body and clear any built up toxins from yesterday.

Substitute It

Instead of ordering a cup of soda with your burger, ask for a glass of water instead. It’s a great start to developing healthier habits and you’ll save money at the same time.

I hope you enjoyed these tips on how to stay hydrated in college. Now, remind yourself to drink plenty of water everyday. You can start by taking a Pledge!
