If there’s one dominant beauty trend that stands out from the Spring 2012 RTW runway shows thus far, it’s definitely bold brows. While not every designer seems determined to set forth their Spring looks by leading with the strongest of face-framing arches, Derek Lam embraced them with open arms. The designer’s fierce models not only dressed the part, but looked the part as well with statement-making untamed brows that made audiences want to throw their tweezers to the wayside. Even if you don’t have the ability to grow Jordana Brewster type eyebrows, you can fake Derek Lam’s hottest East Coast inspired beauty trend with a brow palette like LORAC’s Take a Brow Eyebrow Enhancers. Ditch any kit with stencils, as the idea is to look natural and borderline unruly (but not crazy, of course), and instead choose to focus on your brows natural shape, as imperfect as it may be! Instead of your typical neutral shadow, Derek Lam’s girls rocked matte yellow (like Urban Decay’s ABC Gum) for lids that popped, highlighted with copper eyeliner underneath to keep eyes defined with just the right amount of flash. Cheeks were dusted with a sunny peach shadow to give a sense of warmth that’s sexy, natural, and on-trend without verging on overpowering. And of course, don’t forget the ultra-shiny clear lip gloss – this way the focus stays on the brows without losing all emphasis on the lips! Photo Credit: Style.com

Designer: Derek Lam
Inspiration: Sixties California Minimalism
Top Trends: minimalism, suede a-line skirt, linen denim looks in indigo, relaxed silhouettes, white gowns, print dresses, thin silk cashmere sweaters, high platform heels and sandals, neutral palette, snake skin theme accessories- saddle shoulder handbag
My Thoughts: He turned to West Coast for inspiration and I love the simple silhouettes, the clean lines, and the creamy neutral palette. I adored the accessories too especially the saddle bag in snake skin. I also gotta give credit to his all-white finale gowns. They were the perfect looks to end the show.
Backstage Beauty
Makeup: Tom Pecheux for Estée Lauder
Hair: Orlando Pita for T3
Nails: Jin Soon Choi for Estée Lauder
Top Looks

Makeup: “We wanted to play with color like we always do,” said Pecheux. “I love working with Derek; he’s really into fantasy, and I love breaking the rules.” He drew bright red-orange eyeliner on the upper lash line. A highlighter was used for the inner eyes and finished with black mascara. The lips stayed neutral and he set the cheeks with bronzer and Estee Lauder blush in Sweet Nectar.
Hair: To add lift and texture, Pita used volumizing spray and blew the hair dry. He gently massaged the crown of head to give it a slight messy finish.
Nails: Nails were simple with a golden/metallic shade.

Ready for Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week this upcoming September? The shows schedule is finally revealed so now you can start planning to see your favorite designers. The festivities will kick off Thursday, September 10th til next Thursday, September 17th; however, the first night is technically the most talked about kickoff party, Fashion’s Night Out. Sponsored by Vogue and several others that are too many to list, Fashion Night Out is Anna Wintour’s pet project that’s dedicated to the people and getting them hyped up about fashion and giving them the motivation to start shopping again. From 6pm to 10pm, expect dozens of retailers to be featured at the event including, live music, dancing, and just overall fun!
On another note, designers such as Christian Soriano, Isaac Mizrahi and Doo.Ri will be joining Derek Lam, Tory Burch, and Erin Wasson at the tents this season while M.A.C. Cosmetics will be at Milk Studios throwing their own party downtown and away from the tents. Too bad, I don’t have the schedule quite yet, but they will by shuttling people from the tents to the studios. Awesome!
Here’s a full list of New York Fashion Week lineup.
