Guest post from my friends over at College Candy!

As it’s creeping closer and closer to December, I’ve started dreaming of holiday parties. I just love gathering with friends and family over Christmas, especially when there are some drinks and dancing involved. Something about this season makes garish things totally acceptable: giant headbands, adorned sweaters and loads of sequins. I don’t have any sequined pieces in my wardrobe, but may soon because I’ve found the Jack Wills Hadlow Vest!

See how to make this flashy piece work for day-to-day!

Dior Holiday 2011 Collection: Les Rouges Or

by Diana Ajih on October 4, 2011

in holiday beauty

dior holiday 2011

Dior newest Holiday 2011 Collection: Les Rouges Or is available this month which features lovely makeup palettes, nail polishes, brushes, and more.

Seems like Dior is following the classic red and gold theme this holiday. Who doesn’t love the glimmer and shimmer of gold? It’s not a huge collection but these gold-infused products is just enough for a luxurious makeup look.

The story of Dior and Gold is a long one, with its origins in the very sound of the name ―Dior‖. This fact did not escape Jean Cocteau who said, “Dior, this airy genius of our times whose magical name includes that of God (Dieu) and Gold (or).” Rigour combined with excess: it was a prophetic name. From his first couture collections at the end of the 1940s, Christian Dior toyed with gold as the ultimate symbol of true luxury and dreams, as seen in his 1947 ―Champagne gold‖ silk Aladdin gown, in the 1949 ―Pactole‖ gown and so on.

Gold was synonymous with refinement, also appearing as a delicate highlighting touch on perfume bottles and the first lipsticks. Thus, the fascination with gold has continued over the decades. In whichever way it is used, gold is always symbolic of a doorway into a dream. And today the House of Dior is inviting us to a new enchanted experience with a flamboyant collection created by Tyen, where the colour gold provides the setting for Dior’s emblematic Rouge Dior lipcolors and Vernis nail varnishes. Gold reveals the potency of their shades, and like gold powder thrown into crystal fusion to colour it red, gold equals refinement; it glimmers with luxury.

Les Rouges Or Collection (Retail $32.00)

The new lipsticks scintillate, setting lips aglow. Across the spectrum from red to pink to pure gold, the most beautiful lipstick shades have been infused with a golden powder. This ultra-fine golden powder does not shimmer like mother-of-pearl but melts like a pigment, revealing all the potency and splendour of the colour. On the lips, the finish is sheer, vivacious and captivating, with the ever present comfort and plumping hydration of all Rouge Dior Lipsticks, available in four limited edition shades.

Shades in

  • Or Etoilé #217
  • Versailles #527
  • Belle de Nuit #841
  • Nocturne #961

The Or Vernis Collection (Retail $22.00)

Glowing in a haze of new light, nails are transformed into precious accessories. Injected with a golden powder as delicate as that of a goldsmith, Dior Vernis cult shades gain shine, intensity and depth. The jewel-like nail varnishes are available in four shades including the limited edition Gold Varnish, the perfect gold shade.

Shades in

  • Or Divin #221
  • Exquis #611
  • Merveille #651
  • Apparat #871

Illamasqua gives us something to cheer about this upcoming holiday season. Here’s a sneak peek at its newest holiday 2011 collection: Theatre of the Nameless.

Descend into the riotous scene of erotic adventure that is THE THEATRE OF THE NAMELESS, nocturnal den of the dissident leaders of underworld subcultures. Exotic dancers rub shoulders with expressionist actors and performers; nudists and Boot Girls openly compete for the Conférencier’s eye; and all participate in the Club’s endless, pleasure-seeking rituals, immersing themselves in a heady world of sensual delight …

Teased by the sweet, pungent tang of opium, the air throbs with the electric shock of lovers’ flesh. Dare to feel the intensity of the club’s intimate caress, and abandon yourself to the glorious wonders of unfettered night-time make-up.

“Theatre Of The Nameless is a heady mixture of opulent hues, decadent pigments and fearless application. A bruised and burnished pallet that gives a sensual slip that bleeds colour into colour, worn through and kissed off.” — Alex Box, Illamasqua Creative Director

Infused with the essence of self-expression that transformed 1920s Berlin, this rich and indulgent collection envelops the senses. Darkly sophisticated tones are accompanied by shocks of dazzling iridescence, creating a breathtakingly modern interpretation of the most illicit nightlife in history.

It’s time to cross the threshold and embrace a world of unadulterated decadence …
