Canadian model Jessica Stam is slowly stepping her shoes into fashion design. Back in 2008 she collaborated with Repetto on a pair of flats and just last year, she consulted with Rag & Bone on its Spring 2010 collection. Now, she has teamed up with fashion designer, Rachel Roy and designed five pieces for Roy’s lower-priced line, RACHEL by Rachel Roy.
The collection captures the essence of a cool downtown girl. For her aspiration on this project, Jessica Stam told Marie Claire that she wanted a “nautical meets distressed military” vibe. The collection will debut later this month at Macy’s. Prices will retail for $49 to $199.
The “Love” theme lookbook is very reminiscent of spring time. Love is in the air..lol! The collection includes fun and cute T-shirts, cool accessories, and remixed jackets. Love the vibrant colors too!
Looks: The designer was inspired by Ancient Egypt fashion and the turn of the 20th century. The pieces featured metallics such as gold and silver, crochet-style dress and jacket, Moroccan military gear, black sheath drenched in gold, navy blue wool, brick color red, and a high-shine gold skirt worn with gold lace tank.
“Drawing inspiration from both the ancient and modern worlds, fall 2010 juxtaposes wispy bias-cut dresses against luxurious coats in reference to the old-world glamour,” said Roy
Makeup:Wendy Rowe for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. The look is Egyptian goddess meets Cleopatra that’s powerful, bold, and fearless. To give the models eyes some pop, Wendy created a deep smokey eye with a hint of aqua to mimmick the shades of a feather peacock. Nude lips to finish.
Hair: Andre Rodman for Frederic Fekkai. Andre channeled Cleopatra’s straight bob look and to add a modern touch, he swept the hair back and gave the strands some height at the crown of the head for added definition.
My thoughts: I love Rachel Roy because her collection embodies a woman’s strength and confidence which I again see in this collection. Very creative! I think the looks were well balanced and her play with gold and metallics was surely an attention-getter.
Estelle’s first go at a fashion line and she’s sharing it with Rachel Roy. Smart move Estelle! The collaboration of this highly-anticipated jewelry line is not launching until August; however, Rachel Roy is giving all her facebook fans a special preview. They’ll have the opportunity to shop the collection before it hits the general public. For 3 days only they can purchase pieces from the collection through a pop-up Facebook store starting February 9th!
Well that is very nice of Rachel Roy to allow all her fans a sneak peak of the collection. I know I’m curious to see the pieces. The collection will include beautiful necklaces and stunning rings including the petal ring seen above. It is affordable too ranging from $34-$50.
