NYFW Fall 2011: Day 2 Designers

by Diana Ajih on February 14, 2011

in runway

Hey All! Here’s a peek at some of my favorite designers from Day 2 at New York Fashion Week!

Peter Som

DESIGNER: Peter Som

INSPIRATION: “It was truly about things my friends wanted to wear,” Peter Som explained of his Fall 2011 collection. “Everyday but heightened and with a touch of quirk.”

TOP LOOKS: long sleeve sequin jersey dresses, colorful prints, sequin pants, tuft of fur on jacket sleeves and on dress hems, dark and neutral wool tailoring

TOP COLORS: black, orange, graphic prints, metallic, navy, gray

ACCESSORIES: bright, two-toned Charlotte Olympia shoes, kitten heels

MY THOUGHTS: I love the mix of bright oranges with dark palettes. The tuft of fur is an interesting look and the finale blue-sequin dress was truly a gem. Overall this collection speaks sophistication.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011: Rag & Bone

by Diana Ajih on September 11, 2010

in runway, runway beauty

Designer: David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone

Inspiration: Militaristic pieces meets parachuting fighter pilots

Top Trends: futuristic military-grade fabrics, sheer layers, intricate straps, high strap sandals

My Thoughts: I had high hopes for this collection since their fall 2010 collection was so on point. I think they missed the boat on this one. It’s just way too over-styled and I just don’t get the straps. lol

I do however like the sheer layers and the tailored jackets and bottom, and loose fitting silhouettes.

Check out the rest of the looks at Style.com!

Backstage Beauty

Makeup: Gucci Westman for Revlon

Hair: Guido Palau for Redken

Nails: Jin Soon Choi for Sally Hansen

The Looks

Makeup: The looks was a dewy complexion with subtle smoky eyes and and neutral lips. The inspiration, Westman explained backstage, “was a combination of a real girl who’s gone on a trip and Peter Lindbergh girls of the ’80s.”

Hair: The hair looked damped to give a “wet look” and pulled back with a black headband. “It’s a sexy, easy updo that looks undone,” says Palau.

Nails: The nails were neutral with a sheer wash.

Today, I put together all my favorite looks thus far from New York Fashion Week. These four looks stood out the most for me and each one is from a different designer.  Love the stripe color skirt from Jason Wu. Genius!
