DESIGNER: Vena Cava
INSPIRATION: “It’s the other side of grunge, the elegant early nineties”
TOP LOOKS: daring cutouts, square necklines, long silk jersey dresses, cropped tops and pants
TOP COLORS: Navy, gray, beige, rust
ACCESSORIES: Berets, Gold choker-style necklaces, gold cuffs, lace up flatforms
MY THOUGHTS: I grew up in the 90′s so I miss this look. Very edgy but cool enough for the downtown hipster.

For their spring 2011 show, Vena Cava shows us textured updos, strong makeup, and half moon nails.
Makeup: Christian McCulloch for MAC Cosmetics
Hair: Hairstylist Ted Gibson
Nails: Nonie Creme with Butter London
The Looks
Makeup: Vena Cava drew inspiration from the Spring 2011 collection and their use of strong colors. McCulloch used vibrant makeup colors- strong smokey eyes with navy eyeshadow, contoured cheekbones, bright coral lips for a burst of color. To keep the face youthful, he left the eyebrows alone for a more natural look.
Hair: Instead of a simple updo, Ted Gibson wanted a more interesting and modern look by adding texture to the hair.

Nails: The nails are definitely an attention-grabber. A lot of details went on the nails, where Nonie Creme gave the models a black and beige half moon manicure.

Designer: Vena Cava
Inspiration: Channeling the ’80′s Memphis Design Movement with multicolors and geometric aesthetic.
Top Trends: Silk prints, bold colors, geometric blouses, minimalism
My Thoughts: Taking ideas from the Memphis Italian Design Movement back in the ’80′s, Designers Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock did a fab job creating effortless looks without the need of the “flashy extras” seen from past shows. I love the bold shades- khaki, red, and blue, the geometric silhouettes, cropped trousers, and washed silks.

Vena Cava for Aqua 19 piece collection will make its debut at Bloomingdales and Bloomingdales.com in September. Sophie Buhai from Vena Cava summed up the collaboration with Aqua, Bloomingdales ready-to-wear line, to New York Mag: “It’s sort of a greatest hits of Vena Cava but a little more playful and accessible.” I’m excited and I have a feeling this line will be a hit.
The collection plays on several variations of classic Vena Cava like sheer black shorts, triangle-printed dresses and blouses. It also features mesh one-shoulder dresses, lace-trimmed tees, cropped skinny pants, faux fur vests, and more! Prices range from $98 to $198.
