Celeb Beauty: Cate Blanchett at 2014 Oscars

March 3, 2014

cate blanchett oscars 2014

Best Actress winner, Cate Blanchett looked absolutely glamorous at last night’s 2014 Academy Awards ceremony. We have all the goods on her hair and makeup and how you can recreate this look from home.

THE LOOK: Modern movie star

THE INSPIRATION: “We were inspired by classic, old Hollywood and wanted to give Cate a look that will be timeless, ” said Makeup Artist, Jeanine Lobell.”

THE PRODUCTS USED:

For eyes

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad #2 Effeto Nudo – Jeanine used the warm taupe shade all over as a base; the deeper taupe on the lid and feathered it into the crease to open up the eye; the light brown was mixed with the deeper taupe and applied to the outer crease and center; and the darkest brown was wet and used as a liner

Troy Surratt Lash Curler– For a dramatic, wide eye look

Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara – After cutting a strip of false lashes and applying to the corner of the eye, Jeanine applied the mascara to the base of the lashes and pressed it in to give her real lashes a false effect.

Makeup Forever Brow Gel– Use to define and lengthen her brows

For the Face

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence – Jeanine patted this into the skin before applying foundation to allow her to use a more lightweight foundation and to ensure it will stay put all night long

Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10 Beige – Jeanine applied this to the apples of Cate’s cheeks and feathered it out before applying a second coat to ensure she looked like she was glowing from within

For the Lips

Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in #103 – Jeanine finished the look with this creamy, beige-y pink

For the Hair

Cate Blanchett’s hair look was styled by Robert Vetica using Vidal Sassoon Pro Series hair products!

Robert and Cate went for a modern day take on retro Hollywood glamour to complement Cate’s nude Armani Couture gown. Inspired by the classic Hollywood look, Robert wanted to create a young and fresh hairstyle that highlighted her beautiful skin tone as well as offset the old Hollywood feel of her gown.

Here’s how Robert created Cate’s look:

  1. First prep wet hair with a golfball size of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse, applying throughout the hair for touchable volume, shine and hold.
  2. Create a low side part, and then blow-dry hair with HairArt Tourmaline Dryer. Using a 100% boar bristle brush designed by Robert Vetica for Moroccan Oil, roll hair away from the face as to not flatten strands while creating bounce. Use the Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse to help keep hair protected against humidity and be sure to blow-dry hair in the front to create soft bangs. Once you have created the desired shape, clip the bangs in place while they cool and then blow-dry the rest of the hair.
  3. Once hair is dry, spray each 2-inch section with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray to protect hair from heat styling. Then, using a ¾ -inch curling iron, curl hair until midway down and continue to curl around the perimeter of the hair for 10 seconds to ensure a strong set.
  4. Using a curling iron, set the ends of the hair starting at the nape of the neck. Once the hair has cooled, brush out the curls to soften the look. While brushing the hair out, backcomb the sides and the ends to ensure flexibility.
  5. Next, spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to hold the look.
  6. To finish, add a layer of the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray, and use a pin underneath, so that hair stays close to the side of the head. Take fine sections of hair, backcomb and pin the other section of hair on top to cover up the pin.
