Hair Spotlight: Nicole Richie Top Knot Style (How To)

September 6, 2012

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist, Andy LeCompte may be the most sought after stylist in Hollywood and it’s only fitting that his long-time friend and client Nicole Richie presented him with the “Hair Stylist of the Year” honor at yesterday’s 9th Annual Style Awards wearing a Anthony Vaccarello dress,  Costume National shoes, an Edie Parker clutch,  Neil Lane jewelry, House of Harlow 1960 Skull Studs, and chic top knot hairstyle from her top notch stylist.

Get The Look!

Step 1. To achieve Richie’s stylish top knot bun, Wella Professionals celebrity hair stylist Andy LeCompte recommends prepping for the look by applying a small amount of Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier to prime the hair, working through dry hair.

Step 2. Then brush all of the hair, aside from the side swept fringe in the front, in an upwards direction to form a ponytail that sits directly on the top of the head, which can be secured with an elastic.

Step 3. Next, use a small clear elastic to tie the tips of the ponytail together.

Step 4. Holding the ponytail directly above her head, Andy twisted the hair a few times and wrapping sections around each other to mold the bun into an architecturally inspired style that could be mistaken for a work of art.

Step 5. The bun was then secured with a few strategically placed hairpins along the way.

Step 6. To finish, Andy suggests Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray, a light silicone based mist that helps smooth away any baby hairs and fly-aways.  The sleek look complements her sexy attire, while the swooping fringe in front keeps the look playful rather than severe.
