how to do a cat eye

Cat eye makeup is the must-have look this fall and one of my favorite beauty trends this season. The cat eye makeup look is very glamorous, dramatic, yet very tricky to create. The look takes time, accuracy, and a bit of precision. Here’s a great tutorial on how to do a cat eye makeup look step-by-step. I also shared several recommended makeup products to perfect this look.

Cat Eye Makeup Tutorial

Step 1. Use an eye primer to make sure your eye look stays in place and last. One of my favorites is Urban Decay Primer Potion. It’s the best! Retail $20.

Step 2. Sweep a neutral shade on your eyelids. Pick something that is close to your skin tone. I use Urban Decay Naked Palette. Highlight your brow bone with a slightly lighter shade from the palette

Step 3. Using a small angled liner brush like Space NK’s Liner Brush, trace a thin line across the upper lash line and wing it out at the end with a gel liner like MAC Fluidline in Black Track by “stamping it”. The width of an angled liner brush is precisely the length of the flick you would draw in a cat eye, so instead of drawing it, just stamp it!

Step 4. Now that you have the bottom half of the wing, “stamp” the brush again above it where you’d like the top half of the wing to go.

Step 5. With the same brush, sweep along the lash line from the inner to outer corner, lifting the line upwards slightly as you work your way outward to connect it to the top half of the wing.

Step 6. If you have any empty spacing inside of the wing (you most likely will),  fill it it!

Step 7. Finish the cat eye look with a dark mascara like CoverGirl Lash Blast Clump Crusher Mascara.

That’s it! I hope you found this tutorial helpful. Now go out and rock this look to work or your next social outing!
