Recipe: Kale and Blood Orange Salad

Next time you’re making a dish with oranges, reach for blood oranges instead. The season for blood oranges is usually short, from winter through the middle of spring, so I like to enjoy them while I can. It’s one of the most prettiest fruits (gotta love the ruby red flesh) and its sweet flavor adds a special touch to any dish. One of my favorite uses of blood oranges is throwing them in salads like this Kale and Blood Orange Salad recipe from A House in the Hills.

It’s so bright and beautiful and who doesn’t love eating pretty food. Right?


  • 1 small bunch dino kale
  • 4 small oranges
  • 1 small shallot, very thinly sliced
  • High quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Maldon salt or other large flake finishing salt
