What to Stockpile if You Can’t Leave the House

April 6, 2020

what to stockpile at home

There may come a time when for one reason or another you cannot leave your house. It might be because of a terrible snowstorm or maybe you’re sick. Either way, it is important to have a supply of food and other supplies in your house just in case something does happen.

Where you are and what you’re stocking up for will help you decide the quantities you should have. At absolute bare minimum though, you should have 3 days of supplies stored in your house at all times. If you want to really have the maximum then you’re looking at 6 months to a year depending on how much space you have.

If you do feel like you should have 6 months of supplies stored then you should look into buying seeds and having a garden. This will allow you to have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, many of which can be grown in your house. But that’s a topic for another article. You should also look into making the switch to reusable on everything that you possibly can including feminine products, paper towels, and yes, even toilet paper.

Right now, this article is all about what things you should have in the house. Most of it will be food-related because, let’s be honest, that’s really the biggest concern there is. The list is broken down into sections and while you don’t need to buy everything on the list, you should at least have something from each one. What you pick is entirely up to you, but I don’t recommend you completely rely on your freezer. If your power goes out then that food will have a short life.
