I remember back when green nail polish was widely accepted as the “it” shade of the moment — circa 1997, back when wacky nail lacquer was pretty much the only “makeup” I’d be able to leave the house wearing. Of course, nowadays nearly any color goes, so you probably could get away with bringing back the lime green tips if you dare — after all, the turnover rate for what’s haute in nail colors switches faster than Rihanna swaps hairstyles. However, since dark, dramatic nails seem to be having their extra-long moment, I’m a big supporter of swapping out your signature navy or almost-black blackberry shade for a more winter-festive dark forest green. From dark army green to sparkly deep emerald, there’s no better tribute shade for the season than Christmas-tree-inspired pine (except maybe cranberry, but let’s face it — red nails are a little trite). While dark green tends to look best on deeper skin tones, the contrast of deep evergreen against creamy skin is also gorgeously striking for the season ahead if you’re not afraid of a little drama!
