The Look:  Fresh Start

The hair look at the A/W ’12 Peter Som show in New York represented a new direction for a new season with contrast playing a key role.

“The Peter Som collection this season is very pared back and led by strict shapes and colors, so I wanted to create a graphic look that worked with the collection but at the same time was not too harsh” said Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director, Care and Styling, Wella Professionals.  “This look is all about tension; tension from the contrast of the small sleek head shape against the full wildness and texture at the back of the hair, and tension between the shine and precision of the top section against the arid rawness of the longer lengths”, adds Eugene.

Get the Look:

  • Start with clean freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, to ensure hair is in perfect condition.
  • Prep hair with Wella Professionals Stay Brilliant Color Protecting Lotion and then blow dry hair with a round brush to create texture.
  • Section the hair at the front of hair and create a deep side parting.   Smooth hair down and spray with Wella Professionals Perfect Setting to create a smooth and sleek finish, comb this through so that the hair is flat to the head and finish with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray – spraying close to the hair to give a ‘gel like’ finish.
  • Pull the hair back behind the ears and create a low, tight pony tail at the nape of the neck.
  • Spray the ponytail with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray to add texture and twist hair into a bun and secure with hair pins.  ‘Set’ hair by applying heat from a blow dryer (a blow dry hood is perfect for this)
  • When hair is completely dry, remove the pins and pony tail and allow the bun to come undone so that the hair falls on the back of the head in matte, textured waves.
  • To create more volume and texture, lift random sections of the hair, back brush and spray with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray.

For the face, Tom Pecheux created a fresh face for the girls. First he used MAC Cosmetics Matchmaster Foundation and dusted Translucent powder all over the face. To contour the cheeks, he brushed MAC’s Stratus Mineralize Blush. And for the lips, he added MAC lipstick in Delectable Mattene (currently not available), a peachy nude lipstick. He also added this color on the eyelids too and finished the look with a brown mascara.

Charlotte Ronson

TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created the slicked back ponytail for all the models backstage at Charlotte Ronson’s Fall 2012 runway show. Inspired by the 70s, the designer’s collection was refined and glamorous with edgy accents.  The perfectly coordinated pieces featured a mix of textures – leather, sheer fabric, knits and slashes of metallic.  The colors were rich with emerald green, tomato red and purple.  TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu took a different approach to the hair by slicking it back into a refined ponytail.

Overall Look:  Sleek and polished ponytail secured at the nape of the neck
Inspiration:  The refined pieces featured edgy accents and called for a slicked back, chic look to compliment the collection
How-To Steps:
1.    Start by prepping hair with TRESemmé Split Remedy Leave-In Conditioning Treatment.  Apply throughout hair from roots to ends
2.    Blow dry hair straight back from forehead, using a flat brush to gently push back
3.    Pull out a few face-framing pieces from the hairline, just in front of the ears for a more windswept look
4.    Apply a small amount of TRESemmé TRES Ultra Firm Control Gel with a color brush to the front hairline, leaving the wispy pieces out
5.    Comb back all the hair flat and gather into a ponytail, securing with a band just above the nape of the neck
6.    Flat iron the ponytail to reduce flyaways, if necessary
7.    Secure the style with a light spritz of TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray

Sephora Beauty Pro Team applied the Sephora Collection Lip Attitude in Red Flirt and Rosy Frivol to the models’ lips. For the face, it was kept fresh and clean thanks to Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, YSL Touche Eclat, and Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit. For the eyes, the team applied a soft lavender color, Make up For Ever #92 Purple for a polished look.

dkny hair fall 2012

The hair look at the A/W ’12 DKNY was rich, refined and elegant. “For me, the DKNY collection is always a great barometer on New York style and this season the collection is very elegant, almost like evening wear, so I wanted to create a hair look that was rich and refined but also with a hint of youth to bring the evening feeling back to a fresher day look” said Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director, Care & Styling, Wella Professionals. Read on to find out how Eugene created this ultra-sleek look…

The Look:  The New Realism

“This hair look is all about preparation, so we started by washing and conditioning the girls hair, adding Velvet Amplifier to wet hair, then applying Wella Professionals Smoothing Balm before blow drying with a round brush to get a rich, smooth finish to the hair.  After creating a low side parting and pulling the hair to the back of the head, we used straightening irons to get hair perfectly straight and the effects of the Flowing Form helped us to manipulate the straightening irons though the hair and also made the hair stick together slightly as it cooled.  The addition of the custom made classic barrette helped to create a wide low tail, with very straight edges and kept the hair flat to the head, for a small silhouette which worked brilliantly against simple shapes of the clothes” said Eugene.

Get the Look:

  • Start with clean freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, to ensure hair is in perfect condition.
  • Prep wet hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier then add Wella Professionals Flowing Form Smoothing Balm before blow drying with a round brush to create a smooth sleek finish.
  • Section the hair at the front of hair and create a deep side parting.   Smooth hair down and spray very lightly with Wella Professionals Perfect Stay Essential hairspray to add shine and keep the ‘flyaways’ down.
  • Pull the hair back behind the ears and use straightening irons through the back section of the hair, then using a wide barrette clip, secure the hair in to a low tail at the nape of the neck. The tail should be wide and flat with straight edges.
  • Finish with a soft spray of Wella Professionals Stay Essential hair spray to hold the look in place.

Jason Wu

Jason Wu’s fall/winter collection was inspired by the Ming Dynasty highlighting the strong, warrior woman.

Kerastase Hair Stylist, Odile Gilbert played on the warrior women by giving the models a strong ponytail with added extensions. To smooth the ends and create shine, Gilbert applied Double Force hairspray and Fibre Architecte. To finish the look, bondage tape was added on as an accessory.

Diane Kendal was MAC’s lead makeup artist and gave the model the warrior woman eye look. She smudged MAC’s Tealo pencil into the lash line up into the crease. Next she blended Kelly Green pigment and Club eyeshadow to the lids. The eyebrows were brushed and filled in with a natural brow color.
