11 Fashion Resolutions To Follow This Year

Sharing is caring!

For the New Year, be a more savvier shopper, take fashion risks, or finally adopt a signature style. Here are 11 fashion resolutions that will make a significant difference in your style.

1. Add More Color to Your Wardrobe

When you look inside your closet, do you see nothing but black and dark colors? We all get into the habit of picking up too many dark colors so lets add more color. Try some bright colors like pink, turquoise, red, and even orange. If too much color is overwhelming for you, try adding color with accessories.  Handbags, shoes, jewelry and other accessories are a great addition to any look so it’s the perfect way to add color.

2. Clean Out Your Closet

Get rid of the old to make room for the new. I must admit that my closet needs some TLC right now. I like to make three separate piles- Keep, Throw Away, and Donate. It’s also the perfect time to reorganize and make little changes to my closet too. With my seasonal clothes, I store them away until it’s time to wear again.

3. Take More Fashion Risks

Have fun with fashion by being more daring. Fashion is all about taking risk and creating something truly spectacular from it. Try wearing mix-and-match prints, or wear something completely different from your normal style. Evolve your style by taking a little bit from here and there and incorporate that into your own look.

4. Create a Signature Style

Evaluate your current style or what you would like it to be. Is there a favorite celebrity look you admire? Your personal style should be a reflection of your personality so experiment until you find something that you’re comfortable with and truly your own. If you already have your signature look but feel like you’re in a style rut, add an element (ex. accessories, color, etc.)  that still shows off your signature style without looking repetitive.

5. Stop Over Accessorizing

Remember that some outfits can stand on its own. If you’re wearing a look with a significant amount of prints, bold colors, patterns, or noticeable details like sequins, keep the accessories to a minimum.

6. Be a Smart Shopper

And a savvier one! When I go shopping, I love a great deal I try not to go over-budget. The truth is many people know how to buy but, doesn’t know how to shop. Don’t get sucked in by all the steals and deals. Be a smart shopper by knowing your spending limit before you enter the store. Also, have an idea of what you are looking for, having done some research beforehand. Impulse shopping is dangerous and can get you into serious trouble. So be smart when you shop!

7. Embrace accessories

Like I said earlier, don’t over do it however, when you have an outfit that looks a bit “blah”, adding accessories can surely spice it up. Give your wardrobe more “pizazz” by adding accessories.

8. Don’t Wear Clothes That Doesn’t Fit!

You gotta stop telling yourself you can squeeze into clothes two sizes too small or that wearing over-sized clothes can hide your weight. It’s kind of an oxymoron because it only makes you look bigger than what you really are. Who cares if you’re a size 6 or 16? Love yourself and wear clothes that fits your body size. If you’re unhappy about your weight, then adopt the “New Year, New You” philosophy. One of your 2011 goals can be to hit the gym at least 3 to 4 times a week.

9. Play with Different Fabrics

Try fabrics you never thought of wearing or you’ve always wanted to try but didn’t think it would look to flattering on you. Get out of your comfort zone once in awhile and really challenge your style sense by trying different fabrics and other elements for that matter.

10. Invest in a Quality Bag

I strongly believe that everyone should have at least one good quality bag and if you don’t, invest in one. Find a bag that has good quality fabrics, that’s well made, and will last for years to come. A good bag can be costly so save up first if you can’t whip out your credit card right away.

11. Treat Yourself Once in a While

I say go ahead an splurge once a while. Go treat yourself to that high-priced dress you’ve been eyeing for weeks or snatch up your first pair of Louboutin heels. You deserve it!
