How I Prep My Hair for Fall & Winter

November 11, 2016

Just like our skin needs an extra dose of moisture so does our hair especially during the cold weather months. I was checking my hair a couple days ago and I still had some post-summer hair damage that left my hair so dull and dry. As the fall temperature continues to drop, my hair situation would only get worse unless I did something about it. So, to prep my hair for the cold weather, I decided to change up my hair care regimen and use products that will deeply moisturize and repair my sun damaged strands.

Here’s what I did:

Cranked Up The Moisture

First, I cranked up the moisture level. For the perfect moisture balance I used SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner. I’ve purchased some SheaMoisture skincare products in the past, but this was my first time trying their hair care line. I was eager to try their hair products because they’re made with natural and certified organic ingredients which always works best with my natural hair.

I went to Walmart and found a wide selection from the SheaMoisture line in the general market hair care aisle. My hair texture is thick and kinky and my strands can get dry and brittle easily in the cold so I ended up buying the shampoo and conditioner from the Raw Shea Butter collection. The moisturizing recipes found in this collection fortifies and restores the hair and scalp.

The sulfate-free shampoo lathers really well and the conditioner left my hair so fresh and soft. It also restored the shine and elasticity in my hair. After a few uses, the health of my hair is in a much better state.

Deep Treatment Mask

Doing a weekly deep treatment hair mask can bring you some serious hair help. SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Collection has a Deep Treatment Masque that deeply moisturizes the hair while conditioning hair and scalp. It’s enriched with Argan Oil and Sea Kelp extract which is a humectant that helps the hair retain moisture. I had such great success with the shampoo and conditioner so I plan to buy this next time I’m at Walmart.

Scheduled a Trim

The cold air holds less moisture than warmer hair which means more split ends for me. Thankfully, I have my hair appointment coming up this weekend so my scheduled trim is good to go.

Like I mentioned earlier, Walmart has a vast selection of SheaMoisture hair care so you can find the right SheaMoisture product, too!
