Keep Your Skin Soft During Summer with a Body Polish

by Diana Ajih on August 13, 2009

in Summer

bodyscrub
The summer months can be harsh on your skin with all of the sea, sun and sand. Not to mention the extra showers during the humid warm days as you try to cool off. Treat your skin and your senses to a luxurious body scrub. Look for a scrub with a scent that appeals to your nose and your budget. Slather on the scrub no more than 1-2 times a week. If you have typically dry skin look for a scrub that has added moisturizers or if you are looking for an aromatherapy experience choose a fragrance that has either a calming or invigorating sensation. There are also specialized scrubs for various parts of the body including the face, feet and lips. Be sure to follow up your body scrub with an intensive moisturizer to soften the skin.

If you are looking for a scrub without parabens, sulfates or synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes or phthalates you’ll love the Nude moisturizing body polish. It contains natural Hibiscus monoi and sugar. The sugar dissolves after rinsing with water and leaves a pretty delicate scent of monoi and smooth skin. Another one of our faves is the popular Fresh Brown Sugar body polish, which was awarded “Best Body Scrub” in InStyle magazine’s “Best of Beauty” (April 2009 issue). The real brown sugar crystals are saturated with healing oils and add moisture as they gently exfoliate, and we how can you resist the sweet sugary smell of this scrub!

A roundup of some of our favorite body polishes:

Nude Skincare Moisturizing Body Polish 6.8 oz, $52 at Sephora.com
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps ‘Soy Milk & Honey’ Body Polish, $27.50 at Nordstrom.com
Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish, $65 at Saks.com
NATURALS Apple & Honeysuckle Rejuvenating Body Polish, $6.00 at Avon.com
TOCCA Esfoliante Da Corpo Stella Blood Orange Rich Body Polish 480ml/16oz, $53.50 at Strawberry.net

summer-body-scrubs

Glowing skin is a must for summer so before you apply your sun tan lotion or perform any type of hair removal, be sure to scrub up first. Here are 5 recommended body scrubs that I’ve used in the past that will leave your skin ultimately soft and smooth.

1. Kiehls Body Scrub in Grapefruit- One of my favorite body scrubs. The summer scent of grapefruit makes my knees weak. Adding aloe and chamomile makes it more enticing to use. It’s gentle on the skin and the results….silky-soft and refreshed skin. ($25)

2. mark Berry Grand Super Exfoliating beads- It has antioxidant-rich cranberry and pomegranate seeds combined with apricot seed powder and oil absorbing rice powder for an extreme exfoliation. A great remedy for dry skin. Combine this with your favorite cleanser for extreme smoothness. Take only small amounts and your skin will look brighter in no time. ($9)

3. Ole Henriksen Loofah Body Scrub- This all natural body scrub alone is gentle on the skin but combine it with a loofah, prepare yourself for a deeper exfoliation.  It will rid your skin of dead skin cells and cleanse the entire body. It’s also blended with menthol to enhance circulation. A great buy! ($28)

4. Caudalie Merlot Friction Scrub- I’ve used every Caudalie body scrubs but this one is my favorite. Not only is a great exfoliant, it has firming properties as well. It shapes and tones the skin. It’s all natural and it’s blended with lemon, peppermint, and sweet mint essential oils. It has the consistency of fine brown sugar grains that is soft to the touch. As it exfoliates,  it moisturizes at the same time. Love it! ($35)

5. Korres Basil Lemon Body Scrub- Another fab skin polisher.  It’s blended with bamboo and jojoba beads to remove dead skin cells and enhance circulation. It hydrates the skin and gives it a healthy glow. I love the citrus lemon smell and it’s inexpensive. ($17)

Start enhancing your summer glow right now with any one of these body scrubs!

Good Eats to Treat Dry Skin

by Diana Ajih on February 2, 2009

in skin

Still battling with dry skin? Well, it’s a common problem and quite irritating too. Truth is, dry skin can be caused by a number of factors such as: weather changes, hot showers, air conditioners, harsh soap and cleansers and several other causes that strips away moisture from the skin. It’s much harder on women since we tend to lose more moisture at a faster rate than men. Though it’s always recommended to drink plenty of H20 to quench our skin’s thirst, it’s not always enough which is why it’s vital to incorporate additional supplements to keep the skin hydrated and finally eliminate dry skin. So, how do we treat dry skin? I was reading a great article that gave some excellent advice and tips on treating dry skin. Beautiful skin is achieved through good eats. When your body is healthy on the inside, it will show on the outside. Having a positive change in one’s diet is crucial to treat dry skin. Here are some known foods that will help banish your skin troubles and preserve your youth and beauty.

  1. Eat lots of fruits and leafy vegetables- They are loaded with Vitamin A, B, and E. Here’s a few: Cantaloupe, milk, apricots, avocado, wheat germ, plain yogurt.
  2. Yellow and orange vegetables like carrots are good because it has beta-carotene which tackles dry skin.
  3. Foods rich in Sulfur are great because Sulfur prevents dry skin by stimulating the metabolism. Examples: onions, garlic, eggs, asparagus.
  4. Flaxseed oil is a great health benefit to the skin.
  5. Stay away from fatty foods and beverages that dehydrates the skin such as alcohol, coffee, and beverages.

Check out these tips on eating for beauty too! Did I miss anything? Leave me a comment!

How to Reveal Smooth and Healthy Skin On A Tight Budget

by Diana Ajih on January 20, 2009

st ives apricot scrubFinding skincare products that can deliver beautiful, healthy skin can be hard to find if you’re on a tight budget. I’ve come across several facial scrubs that cost an arm and a leg but it deliver great results which I expect since I’m pouring out twice as much than I would like to pay. So what do I consider great results? Well.. a skincare facial scrub that can deep cleanse my pores and can successfully remove dead skin cells to reveal smooth and soft skin. Is it possible to find a facial or body scrub that can give me smooth and healthy skin on a much smaller budget? Yes, it’s possible with St. Ives Apricot Scrub. If you’re on a budget this is your best bet because it works just as well as the more expensive skincare products I’ve come across.

St. Ives Apricot Scrub is an invigorating scrub and is the secret to revealing beautiful and healthy skin on the face and body. It’s a natural exfoliant that deep cleans the pores and gently removes dull skin creating a smoother and softer appearance. Here are other great skin features on the product:

  • Evens out skin tone on face
  • Makes pores appear smaller
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Non-drying
  • Won’t clog pores
  • Vitamin-rich apricot extract
  • Contains Swiss Glacial Water
  • Nourishing Swiss Botanicals

This has been one of my secrets for smooth skin. I’ve used this  St Ives scrub for years and is a smart buy for a great price. It works very well on people suffering with acne/oily skin. In fact they have a scrub specifically for acne sufferers. It’s good to use on any skin type and a good alternative to microdermabrasion or high end products if price is an issue. It might not be as effective but it’s a good start. Also, be well advised before using any scrub especially if you have sensitive skin.

Don’t overuse!!!! Use in moderation such as every 1 to 2 weeks. Now, start showing that healthy skin on the face and body with St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Available at your local drugstore.
