I can’t believe we’re less than a month away from Thanksgiving. I’m behind on so many things and now that the holidays are approaching quite rapidly, my stress-level is slightly rising. I’m not in panic-mode just yet and I can still get back on track if I work extra hard this week.
Anyway, enough about that and let’s talk about this holiday drink recipe I’m sharing with you today. It’s my go-to warm cocktail for cold weather- an Apple Cider Hot Toddy. This version of the classic hot toddy is a warm and cozy drink that is perfect for sipping on by the fire this holiday season.
A hot toddy is a classic winter drink and is known for alleviating symptoms of the common cold but you can still enjoy it even if you’re in tip top shape. It’s also a strong drink. If you prefer cocktails that mask the alcohol, then this drink isn’t for you.
I know my stress level will shoot up again as we get closer to Thanksgiving, so this Apple Cider Hot Toddy will come in handy when I need to regain my sanity.
Apple Cider Hot Toddy
- 10 oz apple cider
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 8 whole cloves
- 1 1/2 Tbsp honey
- 4 oz whiskey (I used honey whiskey) or bourbon
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 3 slices of apples (for garnish)
- 3 pieces of lemon peels (for garnish)
Makes 2-3 drinks
Step 1. Combine apple cider, cinnamon, star anise, and cloves in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil over medium-low heat.
Step 2. Remove from heat, cover lid and allow spices to steep for about 12-15 minutes.
Step 3. While you wait, grab glasses and add 1/2 tbsp of honey in each one.
Step 4. Add whiskey and lemon juice and stir to combine.
Step 5. Strain spices and add apple cider mixture to each glass and stir to combine. You can add more honey if you prefer it sweeter.
Step 6. Serve with cinnamon sticks, apple slices, star anise and lemon peels.
I hope you like this holiday cocktail as much as I do. For more holiday drink recipes, check out this Apple Cider Moscow Mule!
