What’s your favorite season?
For me, it would definitely have to be summer. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a much-needed vacation. I’m actually anticipating a summer road trip with a couple of my girlfriends next month. Summer is also one of the best times of the year to throw a party. With the warm weather and beaming sunshine, summer is a prime time for a backyard BBQ. We’re actually putting the finishing touches on our new deck and we can’t wait to try it out and start grilling away.
I’m planning a huge BBQ party in July and starting to put together ideas for our yearly “last days of summer” party in late August. I like getting together with friends but I love being the host. It’s so fun to get all the family and my closest friends together and grill up an amazing meal. The food is important, but a backyard barbecue wouldn’t be complete without the perfect cocktail. When you’re hanging outside, all you need is a tasty drink, that is easy to make and will cool you down quickly.
I partnered up with 7UP® to bring you a fun and mixed drink you can make for a little fun in the sun at home. This spiked strawberry lemonade is the perfect sparkling drink recipe that you can whip up for a summer BBQ, pool party, or picnic. I made it on a whim and it turned out really delicious! I made these with my mom a couple days ago and they were so refreshing after such a hot day.
It’s made with strawberries, lemonade, 7UP, and vodka. Lemonade is of course a summer staple, but spiking it with booze takes it over the top and gives it a more grown up taste. You can substitute the vodka with gin. Just pick your favorite spirit and mix away! I also made the right decision adding 7UP. It has such a crisp, clean taste and is the perfect addition to any festive drink.
Spiked Strawberry Lemonade
- 6 strawberries sliced
- 5 to 6 oz of lemonade
- 3 oz of vodka
- 1 /2 cup of 7UP
- 1 cup of ice
- 6 lemon slices
Step 1. In a large pitcher, combine vodka, lemonade, 7UP, strawberries and lemon slices.
Step 2. Stir and refrigerate until chilled for 1 hour or leave overnight.
Step 3. When ready to serve, add ice to serving glass.
Step 4. Pour the cocktail over the ice and garnish with a strawberry, lemon wedge, or summer-themed decoration.
Step 5. Sip and enjoy!
Note: If you like it a little more sweet and less tart, just add a bit more 7UP; but just make sure you taste first to see what you think.
