Maintaining good posture is something that I have struggled with for years. I can’t recount the number of times my mom told me to,  “stand up straight” or asked, “Why are you slouching?” when I was younger. When I started highschool, doing physical activity like playing soccer or basketball really helped me fix my posture and I never saw it as an issue again. Well….not until after college.

Immediately after graduation, I started a 9 to 5 job at an advertising agency and a brand new blog. I was always on the computer and I had a tendency to sit hunched in front of the screen. As I spent more time on the computer and looking down at my smartphone to read news articles, I started getting back problems and neck stiffness. It only got worse overtime and I could no longer ignore it. I needed to fix my poor posture which meant starting some new habits like stretching every hour and working out at the gym more. Reminding myself to straighten up was also key to improving my posture and I managed to do so with the help of ALEX Wearable Posture Tracker and Coach.

What is ALEX?

ALEX is the first wearable posture tracker that accurately measures the angle of your neck and position of your head, and then coaches you towards better posture, every day. There’s no denying that we live in a technology driven world and it has transformed the way we live, communicate and share information. We’re constantly looking down at our laptop or smartphone for extended periods which causes soreness and stiffness in the neck and spine. ALEX Wearable Posture Coach helps eliminate the pain by addressing the underlying causes.

Most posture and fitness trackers goes on the wrist but ALEX is positioned on your neck which is why I find it more useful. It gently sits on the back of your neck to track the angle of your neck and the position of your head, relative to your body. When you find yourself hunching over for more than a few minutes, ALEX vibrates according to your personal setting. There’s also a mobile app that lets you track your progress over time and monitor your posture in real time. You can also fully customize ALEX in the mobile app like adjusting the frequency and intensity of alerts thus guiding you to build the right posture habit.

I started using ALEX two weeks ago and I’ve already seen drastic improvements. No more ‘text neck’ and my posture is a lot better. Every time I slouched into a poor position, I would immediately feel a vibration on the back of my neck. It truly does coaches you towards perfect pain-free posture. I like that it’s flexible, lightweight and has a nice sleek design making it super comfortable to wear. ALEX also has a long battery life that can lasts up to seven days without recharging.

  1. I always try to keep good posture but I would love to try this device. I would love to know if I really am keeping myself in line to help my posture.

  2. I struggle so much with my posture and I would benefit so much from a resource like this that would help me correct it. And as someone who is very short, standing straight would make a really big difference for me!

  3. I need this stat. I know that I don’t have the perfect posture and need to improve it. I had back surgery in December of last year and still have some other health issues. Posture is an easy thing to fix.

  4. omg i have been thinking about something just like this for years now. Are you sticking with it? I would imagine you might slump back (pun intended) after you take it off?

  5. This is very interesting gizmo. My time in the Army left me with a pretty good posture, but I know it’s an issue many people have. Watching my little boys with perfect posture made me realize it really comes from spending hours a day at a desk.

  6. this is great, never knew it existed! I used to hear this from my folks and grandparents from time to time, and at times I find myself slouching and correct myself…got to have good posture! thanks for sharing : )
