Sharing is caring!

how to live your best life

Are you living your best life? If you can affirmatively say “yes”, then congratulations on being one of the lucky few. If you are not quite sure, then don’t worry as you’re not alone. A lot of people feel that there is something lacking in their lives. The good news is that you can always choose to make a change for the better. Do it right now. Perform small things every day that will allow you to live your best life.

You can start with my list below and add more as you develop your own realizations:

1. Live with Intention

Responsibilities will often pull you in many directions. It can be difficult to keep up, especially if you’re not even certain why you’re working so hard. You end up going through the motions just to finish all of the tasks on your list. This can leave you feeling tired and empty at the end of the day. Take back control by living with intention.

Instead of doing what you think you have to, start figuring out what’s really important to you. Maybe climbing the corporate ladder is what your parents want, but is it making you happy? Remember your passions. Use them to guide your future. Make plans and follow through. When you live with intention, you get more excited to tackle each day.

2. Practice Gratitude

Life isn’t always going to be rainbows and unicorns. Sometimes things will not go your way, and you might feel down because of these. Prevent yourself from falling into a dark place with a vital life skill: the practice of gratitude. Learn to see the positives and be thankful for all the good in your life.

At the end of each day, write down a list of the things that made you smile. It could be a random act of kindness by a stranger, a delicious meal after work, light traffic on your way home, displays of affection by your pets, a great episode of your favorite TV show, a surprise message by an old friend, and so on. You’ll notice that even the worst days can have hidden gems if you open your eyes.

3. Practice Habits That Support Your Goals

Many quit before reaching their goals because the challenges seem insurmountable. In order to avoid this, you should break things down into smaller goals that are more readily attainable. This allows you to feel a sense of accomplishment throughout the journey, thus keeping your motivation high even when it gets difficult.

You should also practice habits that will support your end goals. For example, let’s say living a healthy lifestyle is your end goal. Not only do you have to practice habits that support this new lifestyle but also, remove bad habits that will prevent you from living optimally. So practice these habits daily and remember that your goals and intentions come first.

4. Think Less

Certain life decisions require careful consideration. Thinking things over instead of making impulsive decisions often results in better outcomes. However, there are also dangers when overthinking. This can lead to emotional distress and take a serious toll on your well-being. You can end up doing nothing at all because you are too afraid of committing mistakes. Yet mistakes can turn into valuable lessons so you still win in the end.

Focus your mind on important matters and worry less about others. Let go of the anxiety that you feel while thinking about the future. Be in the moment. Do what you can today, and tomorrow will take care of itself. Whenever you notice yourself overthinking, stop. Reassure yourself that things will be fine. Follow your intuition and take action.

5. Never Stop Learning

Education should not end once you stop going to school. Continue to invest in yourself by learning as much as you can from books, workshops, podcasts, documentaries, conferences, online courses, and more. All the knowledge that you gain will prove useful down the road. Focus on subjects that appeal to you and make you happy.

If you want to launch a business, then listen to your friends, family, and coworkers who have experience in this matter. If you want to get promoted, then find a person who can be your mentor in the company. If you want to master a skill, then become an apprentice to someone you respect.

6. Start Trusting In Life

Fear usually stems from a lack of confidence. You might fear the future because you don’t like not knowing if something good or bad will happen. The economy might tank, your job could be cut, your relationship might end, and your dreams might shatter. These may or may not happen. Even in the worst-case scenario, you can still come out on top if you trust in life and your ability to bounce back.

This trust will allow you to let go of the things that you are clinging to for security even if they are making you unhappy. After all, there could be better options elsewhere. You will no longer be afraid of starting from scratch, if you must, because you know that challenges are part of growth. You will no longer let insecurities take over as you accept yourself, and you know that life is unfolding exactly as it should.

7. Indulge Your Passions

The social pressure to fit in with the crowd can prevent us from indulging in our passions. Everyone has a guilty pleasure that they might be too embarrassed to talk about. Most people try to appear normal and act in the ways expected of them for the sake of acceptance and approval.

Many would be happier if they allowed themselves to think less of others and more about themselves. You have to give yourself permission to be weird and explore your own identity. Once you begin to do this, you’ll soon realize there are others no different than you and who are doing the same things. You can be part of a community of like-minded individuals. Join a book club, a running group, a fandom, a geeky forum, or any other tribe where you feel at home.

8. Be The Change You Want To See

It is easy to get frustrated with the world when we see all of the bad things happening around us. We often wonder how things got this way and why no one is doing something about it. Instead of blaming others and feeling helpless, you can adopt a more positive mindset and take control.

Define your life by your own choices, not the actions of others. Do what you can given the options that you have. Be the change that you want to see in the world. Be the kind friend that you needed when you were down. Be the leader for a cause that you feel strongly about. Seek out opportunities instead of waiting for them to come to you.

9. Love Yourself

External criticisms can sting but self-judgments can hurt the worst. After all, we are stuck with ourselves 24/7 so the hurtful messages are constant. If you are being overly critical with yourself, then maybe it’s time to step back and evaluate your behavior. Are you being too harsh? Would you say the same things to a close friend who is already feeling down?

Reflect the kindness you give others back to yourself. Be gentle when you commit failures and mistakes. Prioritize your needs without feeling guilty. Set firm boundaries and learn to say no. Remind yourself of your intrinsic worth. Take breaks if you feel overworked. Do what makes your heart sing because you deserve happiness. All you need to begin living your best life is already inside you.
