Happiness can mean different things to different people. For some, it may be spending more time with family, for others, it can be that career progress they’re waiting for, or it can be achieving their long term goal. Whatever happiness means to you, remember that it is not the destination, but rather the journey that matters.

Keep reading to discover 7 small choices that you can make to stay happier.

1. Dream Big

Life starts at the beginning of a dream (or many dreams for that matter). One of the simplest and easiest ways to start feeling happier (and stay that way) is to dream big- bigger than you ever have. Every night before you get to bed, visualize yourself realizing your dream- in its big grand image, and make it a routine. You’ll be surprised at how much it changes the way you think, feel and behave.

2. Set Goals

Setting goals to achieve your dreams can be refreshing. It can make you happy to wake up in the morning and get you motivated and energized and ready to attack the day. Set short and long term goals and chalk out a plan of action to attack them.

3. Unwind

Life today is fast paced, to put it lightly, which is why, it becomes extremely important to slow down and unwind. Giving yourself the time to unwind and take care of yourself will not just improve your energy levels and make you happier, but will also give you more time to stop, enjoy and value things that truly matter to you.

Self-care is extremely important in boosting your happiness. When you use this time to restore and recharge, it will enable you to bring out the best version of yourself.

Making real changes is another important step, and it doesn’t just mean doing certain things that mean something to you, but saying no to those that doesn’t. Do more of things that scare you, but you know they’ll help you.

5. Appreciate Often

This one’s a biggie- being grateful is exceptionally important, and is one of the keys to living a happy, fulfilled life. Whatever you have, appreciate it and do it often. Appreciate the people around you, your situations, and yourself as well.

It’s true when they say you should enjoy the little things in life. Every one of us is blessed differently at different times in our lives. So don’t let that discourage you or bring you down.

6. Believe in Yourself

Even the best, most successful people on earth have their downtimes, and they too fail, just like you. Don’t let your setbacks and failures affect you so much. Keep faith in yourself and your abilities and never lose trust in yourself.

Last but not least, just let go! There may be some situations you can’t control, or some things you can’t fix or some people who can’t change, but you don’t have to burden yourself with all of that. Just let them go and stop trying to put in so much effort over making them change, especially if they aren’t changing.
