Celebrity Health: Jillian Michaels Workout Secrets

Hardcore trainer Jillian Michaels from the hit show “The Biggest Loser” is not slowing down these days. With her commitment to helping the extremely overweight and with the success of her workout dvd’s, Jillian is continuing to promote fitness and health while fighting nationwide obesity.  Jillian Michaels shares some of her secrets to building  up your confidence and body.

1. Don’t take it easy on yourself! She surely is an advocate for pushing your workouts to the limit.

“One of my trainers beats the crap out of me; he’s the incarnation of my karma. We do everything from explosive kettlebell to hoisting 100-pound punching bags over my head to running up stairs with 100 pounds over my head two at a time,” Michaels says. “Sledgehammer workouts, throwing boulders—this guy is insane.” Whew!

2. Do what you hate! I hate working out but I do it to stay healthy. She hates certain workouts too but she commits to it and doesn’t give up. How else can she maintain that super fit body!

“Calisthenics, sprints, speed agility, quickness drills—it’s so tedious and so monotonous and I hate every second of it,” confesses Michaels.

3. Get rock-hard abs without crunches. This is so true! Crunches alone will not give you flat abs. Truth is we all have abs but no one can see it unless we remove the layers of fat surrounding it. The best way to get rock-hard abs is major cardio and diet.

“I never isolate my abdominals,” she says. “It’s all high-energy training, body weight, core multiple muscle groups and a really clean, clean diet. It’s not one move.”

4. Pay attention to your diet! I try to stay a way from high calorie  and processed foods and include good carbs and protein into my diet. I also drink plenty of water.

“The key is body fat,” instructs Michaels. “You need to shed body fat, so cut out processed foods. Cut out alcohol whenever possible. Keep your water level really high so you’re not retaining.”

Celebrity Health: Model Marisa Miller Fitness Secrets

Victoria’s Secret’s model,  Marissa Miller might have been born beautiful; however, she works extra hard to keep her body in shape.

“I’m 100 percent natural, but I have to work hard to stay in shape. There’s no magic pill. Believe me, if there was, I’d know about it.”

So, how does this 30 year old California native do it? What are her 5 secrets to staying toned and fit?

First, Marissa stays active 24/7.  Her mother’s dedication to fitness and her parents love for surfing has rubbed off on Marisa since she was little. “You could say I’ve been going to the gym since before I was born,” says Marisa with a laugh. “I have a photo of my mom the day before she went into labor with me wearing her unitard and leg warmers. very eighties.”

Second, Marissa never works out on an empty stomach.

“I usually have steel-cut oatmeal with sliced bananas in the morning, but if I want something fast, I whip up a protein shake,” says Marisa. “I mix soy or almond milk, yogurt, a banana, and a scoop of protein powder with frozen organic fruit, like mangoes or blueberries. I don’t measure anything; I just throw it all in the blender. I also carry Gnu Flavor & Fiber bars with me in case I need to eat on the run.”

Celebrity Health: Britney Spears De-Bloating Tips

Celebrity Health: Britney Spears De Bloating Tips

Britney Spears looked amazing in a sparkling, black Roberto Cavalli mini dress at the Teen Choice Awards last month. Might I also add how toned and trim Britney looked as well. The singer has been working extra hard to get back into shape. Britney has her own secrets to maintaining her slim look by staying away from foods that causes bloating. Here’s her three de-bloating tips:

1. Britney’s stomach was the first area where she notices weight gain so she stays away from fizzy drinks, like soda because it causes bloating.

2. Britney Spears reduces her intake on salty foods aka junk food. No more chips and french fries because salt retains water which again causes bloating.

3. Lastly, Britney has stopped chewing gum. Even sugar-free gum! Chewing gum causes air to get trapped in the stomach which makes you bloat.

Great tips Brit. Stay looking fabulous!

Suffer From Hyperhidrosis? DERMAdoctor Can HelpSuffer From Hyperhidrosis? DERMAdoctor Can Help

I had the opportunity to test DERMAdoctor’s newest product MED e TATE. I will honestly admit that I sweat more often than others on my face and during the summer, it’s even worse.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

It’s a condition characterized by abnormal excessive sweating in the hands, underarms, face, feet, and groin area while not being active. The primary cause is unknown but many speculate heat, emotions, and other medical conditions are involved . It affects 3% of the U.S. population. Hyperhidrosis is usually treated by over-the-counter antiperspirants, prescription-strength antiperspirants, iontophoresis (device that passes direct electrical current through the skin using tap water), botox, and even surgery. These treatments doesn’t sound too pleasant but DERMADoctor offers a better and cheaper solution.

DERMAdoctor MED e TATE is noninvasive treatment for excessive sweating sufferers. This injection-free medicated control wipes blissfully controls hyperhidrosis. Here’s a side note: You don’t have to suffer from hyperhidrosis to use this product. Sweaty hands caused by nervousness, job interviews, and first dates can be very embarassing and MED e TATE can help prevent that. It comes in indivdual packettes so it can easily fit into your purse or pocket whenever needed.

The patent-pending wipes includes:

  • Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Glycine 19% – FDA approved high-potency antiperspirant
  • GABA – Helps improve the ability to resist the temptation to sweat
  • Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate – This small peptide mimics the activity of Temple Viper venom
  • Portulaca – Potassium rich ion source derived from a West African botanical
  • Gynostemma – Replete with saponins, this botanical agent delivers additional benefits
  • Ginseng – Asian root that helps the body to cope with stress

I have used the product on my face specifically around the hairline and I’m amazed at how powerful the wipes are. They are so powerful that my skin was left a bit tight in some areas. With that being said, MED e TATE can also be used to temporarily reduce the look of fine lines.

After my first use, I went outside in the sun for a few hours and my face wasn’t pouring with sweat and my makeup was still intact. I’m relieved to finally find a product that controls my sweat.

For more info on MED e TATE, check out the website. It’s a great solution for anyone who wants to stop their excessive sweating.

Beauty Health Review: Tung Brush and Tung Gel

by Diana Ajih on May 29, 2009

Beauty Health Review: Tung Brush and Tung GelDo you suffer from bad breath? Have you tried everything to get rid of the horrid smell but it just doesn’t seem to go away? I too suffer from bad breath from time to time and the cause of it comes from bacteria that sits on the tongue. Since there are so many crevices on the tongue, it’s very easy for bacteria to hide which makes it that much harder to get rid of bad breath. Now there’s a solution to bad breath so let me introduce to you Tung Brush and Tung Gel.

Designed and developed by a dentist, Tung Brush properly cleans your tongue including the hard to reach places. The Tung Gel works in conjunction with the Tung Brush to keep your breath fresh and clean all day long. Much wider than a regular toothbrush and more effective than a tongue scraper, the Tung Brush is the newest solution to eliminating bad breath.

I had the opportunity to try Tung Brush and Tung Gel and I’m quite pleased with the results. The Tung Brush is round and wide which makes it easier to brush the tongue thoroughly. It is soft on the tongue and I didn’t feel the need to gag. The Tung Gel is great because not only does is it minty fresh, it contains Zinc Chloride which helps neutralize bad breath.  Talk about a double knockout! :)

You can’t use one without the using the other so if it sounds like a product you would like to try, make sure to get both. Both are great products that definitely deserves a 5/5!
