6 Reasons Activated Charcoal Will Do Wonders For Your Skin

March 4, 2015

activated charcoal benefits

I’ve been plagued by acne since high school. It wasn’t the painful, cystic acne kind, but more like clogged pores and small bumps all over my T-zone. As I’ve gotten older, my skin has improved a bit but I would still get them if I was stressed or if Aunt Flo came to visit. A few months ago, I started washing my face with an activated charcoal soap I bought from the local Farmer’s Market. I ran out of my favorite cleanser so I just bought the soap on a whim. I didn’t expect anything magical to happen to my skin, but it did. Activated charcoal healed my adult acne. Not only has it done wonders for me, it’s been a wonder product in the natural beauty sector for some time now, but lately its popularity has gained momentum across the entire beauty industry. Who would have thought a lump of coal would be a good thing?

Here are six powerful benefits of using activated charcoal:

1. It removes Impurities from the Skin

Activated charcoal is well known for its highly absorbent properties. It can absorb up to 200 times its dry weight. It is already used to absorb poisons in the body so when applied to the skin, it will suck out all of the dirt and grime from your pores. It’s a very rewarding experience to wash your face afterwards. You will actually see all the dirt leaving your skin and being washed away.

2. It Absorbs Oil

As well as absorbing toxins from your skin, another benefit of using activated charcoal is that it’s also perfect for people with oily skin. With continued use your complexion will improve making it look healthier and fresh. If you suffer from a greasy T-zone then applying activated charcoal regularly can greatly improve the condition of your skin.

3. It gives your skin a Youthful look

Charcoal is like a detox for your skin. By removing all of the toxins, you can actually improve the health and condition of your skin. Overtime your skin will look much more youthful. If you want to stay looking younger for longer, then you should certainly consider using charcoal on a regular basis.

4. It can eradicate blackheads and acne

If you suffer from blackheads or cystic acne, then activated charcoal would be the perfect solution your skin needs. It’s much less painful than trying to squeeze them out, and it’s also kinder to your skin.

5. Charcoal is very easy to apply to your skin.

Powdered activated charcoal can be mixed with water to form a paste and then be applied directly to the skin. Since charcoal can stain and cause damage to clothes, you should wear old clothes or find old towels before applying. For first time users, I would recommend purchasing a face mask or a bar of soap which already has charcoal mixed into the formula.

6. Charcoal is Completely Natural

Unlike many other skincare products, charcoal is completely natural. Other skincare products may appear to be doing good to your skin, however over time they can actually cause damage.  Charcoal is a very gentle treatment option for anyone looking for a skin detox.

When it comes to the health of my skin, I’ll choose nature every time! That’s why I recommend giving activated charcoal a try if you suffer from acne, oily skin, or if you’re just looking for a skin detox. I’m currently using this Dead Sea Mud Soap Bar from Aspen Kay Naturals.

It’s a 100% natural and is chemical and preservative free. Charcoal acts like a magnet when it comes to dirt and toxins making it easy to unclog pores and cleanse the skin. Dead sea mud is full of minerals resulting in a brighter & refreshed complexion. Each bar weighs 7.2 ounces.  My skin has gotten progressively better with each use. You can find the soap on Amazon!

I completely agree! I use a Charcoal Mask from Beautycounter whenever I see a pimple pop up (I’m in my late thirties) and it eradicates it. My husband uses their Charcoal Bar for his blackheads followed by the Rose Water (which he will never admit). It works wonders.

I love using activated charcoal, I always have some in the house. I brush my teeth with it, I use it as a face mask and I even clean the dog’s eyes with it. 😉
