Want to know my secret to a smooth, comfortable shave? A sharp razor of course and a rich shaving cream – specifically one that doesn’t foam because foam dries out the skin. One of my favorites is from Lush because the creams are packed with ingredients that leave my skin feeling clean, soft and smelling fantastic. It gives me the perfect shave every time; however, there’s one small problem…. it can be expensive. I thought to myself, why not make a homemade version? So, I did and thus the best DIY shaving cream was born right in my kitchen.
I made some for my brother and he even loves it! My diy shaving cream left him with a soft, smooth and refreshed face with no razor-burn. Since Christmas is around the corner, I thought I’d make a holiday-inspired version using rosemary. I also added tea tree oil because it creates a refreshing fragrance experience.
Rosemary DIY Shaving Cream
- 2/3 cup of virgin coconut oil
- 2/3 cup of shea butter
- 1/4 cup of jojoba oil (or olive oil)
- 10 drops of rosemary oil
- 3-5 drops of tea tree oil
Step 1. In a saucepan, melt the coconut oil and shea butter oil together and turn off heat.
Step 2. Transfer to a heat safe bowl and stir in the jojoba oil and the essential oils until well-mixed.
Step 3. Place the bowl in the refrigerator and chill it until solid.
Step 4. Remove from the refrigerator and let it soften slightly.
Step 5. Whip using a hand beater or mixer until its super light and fluffy.
Step 6. Apply on areas you intend to shave and rinse off when done.
Step 7. Spoon the rest into a jar with a lid and keep it in a cool dark place. The shaving cream is good for one month.
This will also make a great gift idea for the men in your life (husband, dad, brother, boyfriend, or anyone in need of some pampering). With the holidays approaching, why not pair this diy shaving cream with a shaving brush and razor for the perfect grooming gift set!
