Only a few things are worse than trying to relax or go to sleep in a room that is extremely hot and sticky. However, vicious summer temperatures are inevitable for most people at some point throughout the year. Below are some surprising hacks to keep you cool this summer:

1. Make Aloe Ice Cubes

Sunburn during the summer is a real and persistent threat; therefore, it pays to be equipped. Fill an ice cube tray with a bottle of Aloe Vera gel, freeze and use as required to cool off while soothing your sun burnt skin.

2. Chill Certain Skincare Products

Keeping skincare products like your lotion, moisturizer, face toner, eye creams, aloe gels, and perfume in the refrigerator is a great way to feel cool after applying them. In an especially hot or humid climate, keeping these products chilled will both cool you down and help in extending the shelf life of some of the products.

3. Cool Drinks in Minutes with a Pre-frozen Paper Towel

Lukewarm beverages on a scorching day can seriously make the day worse. To escape this travesty, you can wrap the can or bottle in a pre-frozen rag or paper towel. This will make your drinking experience much more pleasant in a matter of minutes.

4. Take an Icy Foot Bath

Your feet are extremely sensitive to temperature as they contain lots of pulse points. Taking an icy foot bath will cool down your entire body and help you to have a more restful sleep.

5. Drink Chrysanthemum Tea

6. Turn a Five Gallon Bucket into a Makeshift Air Conditioner

Your window AC unit is ideal for optimal temperature control; however, it significantly contributes to high utility bills between May and September. Turning a five-gallon bucket into an improvised version of an air conditioner can work wonders for you. Do this by attaching some PVC sections along its edges, then fill the bucket with ice water and use a small fan to push air through the top. Here’s a great DIY tutorial on it here!

7. Freeze a Sponge

Take a fresh sponge soaked in water, put it in a zipper bag and place it in the freezer. Whenever you feel the need, remove the sponge and place it on your wrists or forehead. As the sponge warms, it will absorb the residual moisture; therefore, you can cool down without becoming soaked.

8. Put Dryer Sheets on Everything

Staying fresh in the summer can be challenging. To keep things smelling fresh and free of musk, you can clip dryer sheets to your fan, put them in your shoes and stick a sheet or two on the front of the air conditioner vents.

9. Eat Spicy Foods

If possible, designate space in your freezer or fridge for one glass or more; always having a chilled glass on hand will help you with staying cool during the summer.

11. Freeze Bed Sheets and Pillowcases
