how to stay healthy while on vacation

While on vacation, most of us are prone to switch on the ‘indulgence mode’ which is pretty normal. After all, doesn’t vacationing mean that you want to break out of that somewhat tiresome daily routine of yours (which also means paying a little less heed to that healthy, alert and nutritionally savvy person within you)? Well that’s fine and all, as long as you don’t overdo it.

I mean that last thing you want is to suffer from post-vacation syndrome and needing another vacation to ‘recover’ from your last one. Yea, I’ve been there and it’s not fun so you don’t want to fall victim to that. So, the wise thing to do while on a trip is to not throw caution to the wind. Enjoy yourself but be wary at the same time, and take good care of your health. This way you’ll also be able to enjoy your trip to the fullest.

How iHerb Helps Me Stay Healthy While On Vacay

iherb travel products

To stay healthy, I grab must-have essentials at my favorite online natural products company, iHerb.

iHerb is a global leader in bringing the best overall value in natural products to their customers all over the world.  They carry over 30,000 brand name natural products and provide shipping to over 150 countries.

To ensure quality, all of their products are stored and shipped directly from climate controlled warehouses. iHerb also offers customer service 24 hours a day / 7 days a week in 10 different languages. What I love most about iHerb is that you can shop right from your bed to find the right natural products that meets your individual needs.

So, here’s how I stay healthy whenever I travel!

1. Avoid Lack Of Sleep

It’s common to want to engage in a lot of activities while on vacation. You’re so full of adrenaline to go here and there but exhaustion can quickly catch up with you leading to a breakdown. So while it may sound nice to try and cram everything in your to-do list, don’t go overboard to point you’re losing an adequate amount of sleep.

Having enough sleep ensures you’re more alert, less anxious, energetic, and able to concentrate and perform tasks the next day. In case you have a rather hectic schedule, consider using a magnesium supplement for the length of your vacation.

Whenever I’m feeling stressed or sleep deprived, I take this Anti-Stress Drink from Natural Vitality. It has a nice raspberry lemony flavor and it comes in small packets to take on the go. I just throw a few in my travel bag and I can take one at any time no matter where I am.

2. Take Multivitamins Daily

Try to consume as much food and vegetables during your trip (more on this soon) since they are full of natural vitamins. However, I also strongly recommend daily intake of a multivitamin. I really like Rainbow Light Women’s Multivitamin Gummy for its taste and convenience. It has a nice citrusy flavor and comes with 30 grab and go packets.

I make sure to keep up with my usual daily multi-vitamin while I’m traveling so I take enough packets that will last the entire vacation. I try to keep my body on track as much as possible to help ease any stomach and bowel issues, improve my mood, keep my head clear and increase my energy levels.

3. Plan Your Diet

Sticking to a proper, healthy diet can be difficult during travel. You don’t get to cook your own meals or slurp that morning smoothie, not to mention all the temptations to taste various local cuisines…and so on. All the same, you can still maintain a reasonably healthy diet with some planning.

I always make sure to pack some healthy snacks that will last me during the trip. Think dried fruit, sliced fresh fruit, raisins, almonds, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, cheese and whole grain crackers and energy bars.

Even better if you can pack in some pre-made meals such as batches of chicken, whole grain pasta, turkey and cheese sandwich and others.

I also try to avoid airplane and airport food as well as any sodium-heavy, sugary or processed food.

4. Don’t Neglect Your Skin

Just as your food habits, make sure not to neglect your skincare routine while on the road. If you’re even a little bit into skincare, you know exactly what to bring on a plane.

Between the dirty cabin air, lack of sleep and travel-induced stress my skin can become compromised leading to breakouts so I always pack good sunscreen, makeup wipes, travel sized versions of my daily skincare products and collagen supplements.

Actually collagen supplements have been all the rage for the past few years and I have definitely jumped on the collagen train because it has done wonders to my skin and body. These Neocell Collagen Protein Peptides are perfect for travel so I always make sure to pack a few in my carry on. The Mandarin Flavor is my favorite but I also enjoy the Pomegranate Acai and Unflavored packets too.

5. Pack The Remedies

You can get exposed to all sorts of germs and bacteria at any time during your vacation. At the very least, it’s common to suffer from sunburns, rashes, bug bites and earaches during travel. So, having the necessary remedies at hand (i.e. hand sanitizer, bug spray, healing salve, and etc) will stand you in good stead on such occasions.

The one thing I always take is a supplement that boosts my immunity. Rainbow Light Counter Attack Immune Support supplement works great for ongoing protection. It’s filled with a blend of herbs and vitamins to enhance your immune system response, clear and maintain healthy sinus passages and restore total body wellness. It’s travel-friendly too as it comes in 30 travel-size packets.

6. Stay Hydrated

Drink lots of water all through your vacation. Sounds too obvious? But with all the activities, this is what most travelers forget to do. And yet, staying properly hydrated is the key to a healthy travel. Consider getting an insulated reusable water bottle that can be put into your carry on. Drink as much water as possible, but also enough fluid. My favorite picks? Herbal tea, coconut water, and seltzer water.

7. Prevent Traveler’s Diarrhea

Diarrhea and abnormal cramps are just the thing to ruin your vacation for good! Normally, as long as you follow the ‘stay healthy’ routines, there isn’t much risk of you suffering from traveler’s diarrhea. All the same, you can never be too cautious. So, in order to prevent traveler’s diarrhea, make sure that you always eat freshly cooked meals served hot.
