4 Tricks to Make Your Teeth Whiter

Many of us share common insecurities when it comes to our teeth. Having pearly whites is sometimes more than just maintaining a good dental hygiene through practices such as brushing and flossing daily.  You should also take into account your drinking and eating habits. Drinking coffee, tea, red wines, sodas, and even cranberry juice can cause staining of the teeth. There are effective ways to bring some sparkle back to your smile.

1. Use of bleaching agents

A common and highly recommended method to make your teeth whiter is through using household bleaching products such as hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Hydrogen peroxide, aside from making the stains of the teeth removed easily, is also known to be a disinfectant and may kill some of the bacteria in teeth. Baking soda also has a similar effect of making the stains on the teeth easier to be removed.

The most effective way of this method is to combine baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide into the tooth paste that one uses to brush the teeth. Other people prefer to put the toothbrush and toothpaste with baking soda and dip it in the hydrogen peroxide quickly before using to brush the teeth. However, one must also be wary of using too much of the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda since they may also cause irritation of the gums and mucous membranes in the mouth.

2. Increased oral fluid intake

Even though such statement has been used over and over again, drinking lots of water is also another means to make your teeth whiter by eliminating stains from the teeth and gum; and even if you drink beverages that cause staining of the teeth, drinking water after already removes some of those stains.

3. Eat more Fruits

Another basic advice in any kind of health problem or condition is to eat a lot of fruits. In this case, strawberries, which have been found to contain an all-natural, organic bleach chemical called malic acid which is also the same compound in teeth whitening products. The strawberries can be eaten after washing, maybe mashed or applied to the teeth directly but be careful of its seeds since these may damage the gums and cause other health problems.

Another trick is to rub your teeth with the inner banana, orange or lemon peel. Massaging the teeth with the mentioned fruit peels prior to brushing the teeth is noted to show improvement after two weeks. But some people warn not to use this method since the acids in these fruits are only useful when done for the first two times but continuing to use it may cause wearing of the teeth enamel and making the teeth yellower than before. Use this method sparingly.

4. Teeth Whitening Gels

Of course, there are also commercially-bought products that promises whiter teeth such as teeth whitening gels, mouthwashes that facilitate stain removal, bleaching tooth pastes, and other may resort to a visit to your dentist for teeth whitening or bleaching procedure.
