Top 10 Healthy Hair Care Tips For Winter

January 6, 2011

winter hair care tips

Has the winter breeze caused havoc on your used-to-be gorgeous locks? Do you envy celebs like Selena Gomez or Rihanna who stays having flawless hair 365 days a year? Keep your hair beautiful all winter long with the right maintenance and hair care products. Here are 10 of the top healthy winter hair care tips to try.

1. Don’t shampoo too often

Excessive washing will dry your hair and scalp more easily so your best choice is to shampoo every other day or try a dry shampoo as an alternative.

2. Choose the Right Type of Hair Products

During the winter, your stresses need that extra “oomph” to stay gorgeous and healthy. Picking the right hair care products for winter is a must. Look for shampoos and conditioners that provides intense moisture to replenish beautiful hair.

3. Wear hair accessories

Protect the hair by wearing a stylish winter accessory like a scarf, hat, or cap.

4. Condition, Condition, Condition!

Treat dry and brittle hair with an intense moisturizing conditioner. A vitamin-packed conditioner is a great choice to keep hair hydrated. To really give your hair some moisture power, give your strands a treatment with a powerful leave-in conditioner. I recommend Verb Ghost Conditioner, (a friend of mine got a sample of this at Sephora and she loves how smoothing and lightweight it is) and for us natural gals, check out Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strength & Grow Leave in Conditioner.

5. Use Cold Water

Running your hair through cold water really seals down your hair cuticles and locks in moisture. As a bonus, it gives your hair that extra shine.

6. Stop Breakage

To keep your hair from ever breaking again, you need a heavy hitting treatment once in a while like a hair mask. Also, never go outside with wet hair. You can risk having your hair freeze and cause major hair damage. Lastly, stay away from hard elastics. I recommend Living Proof Restore Mask Treatment.

7. The Anti-Static Solution

A fast an easy way to deal with static is to either find an anti-static serum or use a hairspray to apply on a brush before styling. Look for a travel-size version as well so you can carry it with you for touch ups throughout the day.

8. Invest in a Good Gloss

Don’t let your strands start fading in color. Visit your colorist for a good gloss treatment which not only adds shine but helps seal in moisture or try an at-home buy like Frederic Fekkai Salon Glaze. The results can last for weeks.

9. Use a Heat Protectant

Heat styling during the winter can really cause damage to your hair. If you must use heat on your hair, keep it at a limited use and grab a heat protectant while styling.

10. Trim Hair Often

Make sure to get those regular hair trims to cut out split ends. Your hair will look and feel much healthier and more polished.
